The United States has one of the largest immigrant populations in the world. It could be said that the country is mostly make of immigrants. And many of the immigrants are illegal.
Many illegal families have been living in this country for upto 15 years and have still not become legal residents. In these cases, some kids are unable to go to college or get certain jobs because of their status.
What do you think the government should do about their immigration status? Should the illegal immigrants be deported or given greencards if they have stayed in the country a certain amount of time?
Considering that people come to America to fulfill their dreams, it is understandable that there are many immigrants in the US. This may also account for different media organization reporting information in other languages in order to reach out to the whole population. Children who are living in the US and whose parents work in the US should be granted citizenship after maybe five years of living here. If children are going to school they should automatically be given a green card. Families come to the US hoping to make a better life for their children so I do not think we should just deport them. My mother came here from St Vincent right before I was born, and luckily she was able to get a job and she is now a citizen. This is how it should be for people so their lives could be put at a little ease.
If there are kids who are going to school, they should be able to stay in the US and finish their education. If they are in college they should at least be given green cards. People see America as the land of opportunity so if they are able to come here, I believe they should get a chance of fulfilling their dreams.
Well, yeah everyone except maybe the Native Americans are immigranrs, and they came trought Siberia here anyway... And yes immigrants do get green cards and then citizenships after they stay a certain amout of time, pay their taxes etc. Of course this goes along with filling out rediculous amouts of paperwork and stuff. I know a few people who were stricly illegal immigrants, and have not too long age became legal... of course some of them took the shabby route out... that is they got married to somebody with citizenship and it transferred onto them.
And Shanda... yeah 5 years living in USA is minimum for an immigrent to apply for citizenship... well it was back in '99 anyway.
I dont think it should be less time, but it people are already in the country, they should definitely not be sent back if they already have a clean record. A 5 year time period should be given to the person to prove that they are reliable and responsible enough to stay in the country. Also if its about a child or a youth who has lived almost all their life in the country and is still illegal because their parents had brought them in illegally, they should not be held accountable for something they are not responsible for. Therefore they should be given a green card.
Alot of respect should be paid to immigrants for making America what it is, those who immigrated here illegally should be able to have legal status if working and seeking higher education. Many people who come here are better citizens than those who's families were here for generations. I do want to know more about the processof becoming a citizen is if anyone knows what criteria it is right now.
