Ok lets face it America is trying to compete with the rest of the world in education. Some how they try everything and "We" are still not up there. Maybe the problem is not in the school maybe we have to start some where else. But where? We should make a list of things that would help to improve education. I think a big problem is the idea of materialism in the youth today. If you don't have the new jordans you are not cool.

We were actually talking about in class the other day, and one of my classmates from another country had to take hours of math and physics each day, and they like the schools here because they are able to join sports and do other after school activities.
Luckily we are able to be creative in schools.

I think youth today are perceived as being materialistic because they want to wear what other people are wearing, but it's expected in a high school environment.

Public Schools need more support systems, by having counselors who really comfort the students in need and make sure that they get all the help in the world.

We need more technology including Touch screen boards(Smart boards), computer labs, laptops, interactive activities in class, more fun ways of learning by leaving the classroom and maybe having outside activities. Things like this I think will make more kids excited about going to school everyday.

I don't think materialism is one of the big problems in public schools, but merit pay for teachers, or paying kids for good grades is not the way to go. Then charter schools take the attention off of improving public education. I think teachers should get higher pay and benefits but not becasue of higher scores of students.

Public schools should have a coelition or discussion across cities and the US to collaborate on programs that have succeeded in supporting students and really take the students' experiances into account. They need to talk to the kids to find out what works and doesn't and move our funding to efficient programs, smaller classes, better lunch, civic education, peace education, and creative classes to improve education. Create the best envornment that encourages students to do their best, be well rounded, grow opinions, critical thinking..... American public education needs to rise up as a whole with the help of students' opinions and experiences.

Students who are doing better are credited with working harder. If children start to do poorly, the teacher will be blamed. Flawed philosophy.
